The old moon is verging on new again. Some gulls flew in front of it early yesterday morning. It's getting harder to photograph this because of the morning light washing it out. I find myself distracted by the orbital geometry of the moon and sun and Earth--the closer the moon is directionally to the sun, the more of it is in shadow. It's so obvious once you know what's going on, but what a challenge to figure that out in the first place.
