They're usually up in the trees, but I found one at my level flitting about the San Francisco Zoo. Of about 25 shots, only two weren't blurred--these guys hop around a lot.

Levi vs the electric fence
Happily, the fence wasn't hot. Granddad Tom, a fully certified physicist, tested the wire and supervised.

run run run run run run
Levi started trying to run at the zoo, which meant in practice walking a little faster than usual while shouting "run run run run run run!" (Granddad Tom and Grandma Becky.)

Becky and Levi
Grandma Becky holds Levi as he gazes upon the savannah (in San Francisco, 200 yards away from the ocean) at the zoo.

MacF. Music 1
The Fiddlosopher scrapes away at his party, and Paolo plays the bandone. That's correct, it's not an accordion.
Halloween 2006
A belated posting of the costumes. Rachel: Mark Foley (with real AIM nickname). Stephen: Roy of Siegfried and Roy fame (with fake bloody neck bandage).

Cleaning frenzy part two
It's so apparent that everything Levi does these days is play. If everything goes according to plan, he'll be playing with the vaccuum a lot in the next 17 years.
Cleaning frenzy part one
Levi has apparently had enough of our overcluttered house and has started cleaning up with sponges, rags and brooms

Literate Levi 2
Levi loves Babybug and has all the issues memorized so he can quickly find all instances of ducks. Most of the time he gets the books right-side up.

Literate Levi
His all-time favorite book is "The Wheels on the Bus," most of whose moving parts he's maimed by now.

Telco Levi
Levi likes to talk on the phone--especially saying "hello," which comes out as "oooh" or "oh-woah."

March madness
Levi has just begun walking with no coaxing required. He's not terribly good at it, especially when is PJs are too floppy, but he's improving by leaps and bounds, figuratively speaking.

Levi on the rock
I found a great flat rock for Levi to creep about upon during our hike to Hemlock Lake in Desolation Wilderness.

Levi's 12-step program
Well, if my calculations are correct, these are actually steps 14-19. Update: The nickname is "Boopenator," not "Poopinator," so you can all just relax about him being tormented later about embarrassing appellations.

Kids these days
Overheard while walking the dog:
Child No. 1, while looking into bucket: "I'll take one bite of it for 20 bucks."
Child No. 2, one of three audience members: "What's in it?"
Child No. 1: "Cactus, water, grass, and snails."

If you put the white wine in the freezer to chill, take it out sometime before the next day.

free-standing Levi

Levi by the fridge
He can stand up with assistance, and as of July 31, with no assistance! Well, for 5 or 8 seconds anyway.

One misty moisty morning
When cloudy was the weather, I chanced upon a Mini Cooper with peculiar water droplet patterns on the roof. Why does this happen?

World Cup echoes
The willingness to display nationalistic German symbols spread as far away from the World Cup as San Francisco, where I found evidence fussball fandom still lingers.

back to work
My two-month parental leave is over, and it's back to slaving over a hot keyboard during press conference presentations. Multisyllabic Latinate words that George Orwell would hate are abundant (in this case, infrastructure, information, and technology). Today's quiz is to identify this uniquely tufted server executive.

Eerie Sutro Tower
After I took this picture, the result showed only the moon and Sutro Tower's red lights. Aggressively wacky Photoshop editing showed that the camera found more detail in the last few shades of black, including the fog blowing through the tower and the struts' moon shadows in the fog. Everything else is noise and image sensor artifacts.
